Treasure hunting

Treasure hunting

I may have mentioned Farmhouse Antiques. Browsing at Farmhouse is super fun...and kinda therapeutic. Best part is, sometimes I find a treasure.

Last month as I was walking through the booths, I spied an interesting lamp. True confession, I'm a bit partial to lamps...so much so that I'm kinda running out of table space. (Outdoorman thinks this may be a problem.)

Anyhoo, the lamp was behind several others and new to the store. (knowing that it was new to the store may prove my Farmhouse obsession)

Since I'm a regular, I knew this was Ed's lamp...and he didn't just have one lamp...there was a match next to it. Woo Hoo. Ed happened to be in the store that day so I asked about the lamps. He said they came from a sale in North Carolina, and they were old and heavy...maybe Italian.

I scooped them right up and am not one bit sorry...even though I didn't actually need them and finding the perfect spot is proving to be a challenge.

Oh, the loveliness.

The lamps are quite tall, and I'm currently super crushing on tall lamps. They also have the coolest brass swans on either side. A black marble base adds to their heft. I love the neutralness (is that a word?) of the lamps...white, black and gold may be my favorite colors...or non-colors.

I did a bit of Googling when I got home to see if I could find a nugget or two of the lamp history. The closest I came was this pair at an antique store in South Florida.

Gah, that price.  Look at all the money I saved by buying these! Outdoorman wanted to immediately sell these babies on Ebay but, hello, I already loved them.

Next step, and a hugely important step, was picking a shade. I headed to Calloway's in Knoxville because if they don't have the perfect shade, they'll make it.

Mucho thanks to the patient folks at Calloway's.

Moral of this story? Perhaps, shopping can save you some money.

Errr...that's not much of a moral. How about, buy and surround yourself with only things you love because your home should tell your story?

Can't go wrong with that one.
